Top tips for redecorating your home this summer

The warmer weather is here, and if you’re anything like me, that means you’re all about the spring clean and then summer redecoration. I’m at the point now where I don’t go too crazy with my redecorating as I’ve spend a few years making slow changes, but I’ve still got some tips I’d love to share with you guys today.

One of the first things I’d like to mention is how much of a difference good bedding has made to my bedroom. I spend a lot of time in bed, and since I work from home I’ll even spend the mornings working from bed and having breakfast there (yup I’m a lucky duck). What this means is that comfortable bedding is a must for me. Wherever I move, I always invest in a feather comforter- nothing feels more luxurious or warm to me in winter.

I’ve also noticed that my choice of bedding impacts how my room looks in a big way. It also affects how I feel. In winter, my comforter and sheets are typically dark colours or patterns, but in summer, I break out my bright, colourful bedding and it totally changes the look of my room. If you’re still using your old winter bedding, get down to Julian Charles bedding and pick something that puts you in a summer mood- you’ll be surprised at how much of a difference it makes!

Another one of my favourite tips is to consider your art. Since I’ve done so much travel, much of my art is personal to me. There’s the beautiful painting I bought in Cambodia, the scrolls from China, my wooden mask from Bali, my blanket from Guatemala, and more. This helps give my home so much personality, and I have so many memories of travel when I look at this art.

If you’re planning a trip somewhere overseas, I highly recommend getting some art while you’re there. Otherwise, head down to your local gallery, or just keep an eye out for something that makes you think “wow, that would look great in my bathroom” or something similar.

I’ve also found that having a nice kitchen is not only important to me (I hate to cook, so I try to make the experience better by having a comfortable, useful kitchen), but it helps when I have guests over as well. One of the best things I did was clear away the clutter in my kitchen. I replaced a bunch of different appliances with an Instant Pot, moved my toaster out of the way, and maximised the storage in the kitchen.

Removing clutter is actually a good tip to implement throughout your home. Not only does it make it easier to keep your home tidy, but you’ll find that it makes each room seem bigger as well.
