If you’ve always wanted to ditch your boring commute for a motorbike, there’s no better time than now. Some of the benefits include:

  • Faster commute time as you more easily navigate through traffic
  • Cheaper gas costs
  • Fun road trips on the weekends
  • Lower maintenance costs
  • And much more

If you’re thinking about buying a motorbike, there are a few things you should consider. Firstly, if you haven’t ridden a motorbike before, you’re going to need to take some lessons. While it may be tempting to buy the latest and greatest bike which goes super fast and is really powerful, this is usually a bad idea. You’re most likely to have an accident in your first couple of years, and this is more likely to happen if the bike is too powerful for you to control.

Purchasing a cheaper bike will allow you to get the hang of things, and if you do happen to have a crash, as long as you’re ok you won’t feel too badly if the bike is wrecked. If you manage to crash your dream motorbike though, that would be another story.

Once you’ve switched to a motorbike instead of a car, you’ll likely notice that it’s much cheaper to keep the bike on the road compared to your car. You can easily find motorcycle parts and motorcycle tires online, and can even arrange for motorcycle upgrades easily through a number of websites.

Once you’ve bought your motorbike, there are many different things that you need to remember while you’re riding. Remember to always keep your eyes in the direction you’re going. This can be a little difficult when you’re new to riding, particularly if you’re a beginner since it’s easy to get distracted. When taking a corner, be sure to look at where you want to go and avoid looking down.

One of the most important things to remember is that many drivers forget to check their blind spots and drive inappropriately around motorbikes. This is why the statistics are so frightening for many people who would otherwise love to ride.

That’s why you need to be a defensive driver, and keep two steps ahead of everyone else on the road- always check driveways, intersections, and parking lots for cars pulling out unexpectedly. Be aware that some drivers will change lanes without checking their blind spot, which may sometimes be where you’re riding.

Every time you’re about to go for a ride, be sure to give your motorbike a quick once-over. Check your tires, look for any leaking fluid, and ensure your indicators are working correctly.

Wearing the correct safety gear may not feel great in the heat of summer, but it could save your life. If you’re not wearing a helmet, there’s no way you should be getting on your bike. Cover up with a motorcycle jacket, helmet, gloves, pants, and boots for maximum protection.
