Top 4 Tips for Having an Active Summer

Summer is here! The sun is shining brighter, the weather is warmer and most of us have at least a few extra days off to get outside and enjoy all the natural beauty around us. Numerous studies show that being active is great for your health, both physical and mental. While I’m sure you have a lot planned for your upcoming holidays, take the time to get outside, get in nature and burn some calories while you’re at it. Here are my top tips for having an active summer so you can really make the most of these warmer months:

1. Dress Well
The simple truth is, if you’re more comfortable when you’re outside being active, you’re going to enjoy it more. There’s nothing worse than trying to go for a job in uncomfortable, poorly fitted shoes. Because shoes are literally the foundation of your outfit and your body, I always invest in a good pair of shoes. Buying clothes that work well in a range of environments, such as mens casual trousers are a great investment, because you can wear them while on a long walk, and then feel comfortable visiting a local coffee shop with friends afterwards. 2. Get Social
I personally find it so much easier to be active when I’m with a friend. When we’re chatting away, I don’t notice how many times my feet hit the pavement, making it way easier to go further. If your friends reach out to make plans, try changing it up. Suggest you go for a walk or a run or even a hike instead of doing out for a drink. That way you’ll be burning calories and enjoying the good weather – all while saving money! Sounds like a win to me.

3. Take Up a New Sport
Maybe you have always wanted to try a new sport, like paddle boarding, surfing, mountain biking or hiking. Whatever it is, get into it. This is the best time of year to start most sports because the weather is good and you have that extra free time to practice your new found passion. Consider joining a group to reap the benefits of the social aspect of being in a sport’s group!

4. Start Small
Don’t make your goals too ambitious because you may scare yourself off. Just aim to be active for 30 mins a day a few times a week. As you begin to gain more fitness and enjoy it more, you can increase it as much as you want. You’ll start noticing the health benefits in no time and I’m sure the extra feel good endorphins will be a nice added bonus too.
