Kick out the stress, enjoy every second of your holiday build up

Part of your holiday is the pre-planning, and this is possibly where a lot of the stress comes from. It sounds ridiculous to put the word ‘holiday’ and ‘stress’ into the same sentence, but you’d be amazed how common pre-holiday stress is, and when you think about it, it’s ruining the lead up to an event you’ve been saving up for tirelessly.

How can you cut out the stress and actually enjoy the build up to your time away?

Well, there’s no getting away from the fact there often doesn’t appear to be enough hours in the day to complete everything, but delegation and organisation is the way forward, as well as coming to terms with the fact you are not an island, and you can’t do everything yourself!

Looking at how you get from home to the airport is a good way to start. I recently endured a rather stressful coach journey to Stansted because of bad weather, and even though the roads were clear to drive on, the coach abandoned stopping at my town because of a problem with getting up the hill. I spent the day leading up to my departure convinced I was going nowhere, although thankfully it sorted itself out at the very last minute. None of this would have been a problem if I’d booked airport parking and driven myself, like I was planning to do in the first place! For my next journey I have listened to common sense and booked Stansted Airport parking, so I know I won’t have any problems because all the control is in my hands, and I’m not at the mercy of public transport.

This is just one example of how you can lower stress in a part of your travel day that really shouldn’t be stressful, in fact it should be a part of your holiday! Look at what’s available at your departure airport, but this is a service that is generally available nationwide.

Another area of deep stress is packing. I hate packing, I just can’t get my head around how I’m supposed to pre-plan my outfits and needs for a week or two in advance, and it leaves no room for a girl changing her mind! I find that mix and match is the way to go, and although this might not be all that exciting, it certainly gets the job done; I simply glam everything up with jewellery!

I don’t wish to generalise, but I find packing for women so much harder than packing for men. Maybe this is because I am a woman myself, but I like choice, and it seems that whoever decided on luggage allowances does not want me to have choice!

The best way around packing hell is simply to with basics and layer it up, mix and match like I just mentioned. As much of a nightmare as packing can be, get it over and done with and you won’t have to think about it again.

Make lists, tick items off as you go, find a way that works for you, but don’t allow pre-holiday stress to ruin your build up, you’ve worked too hard for this holiday to have it wasted!
